Suzanne Melo received her PhD degree in Emerging Digital Technologies (Photonics Technologies) from the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna, Pisa, Italy, in 2018. In 2017 she was a visiting researcher during her period abroad at the Microwave Integrated Systems Laboratory of University of Birmingham, UK. She received her B.Sc. and M.Sc. degree in Telecommunications in 2012 and 2014, respectively from the National Institute of Telecommunications (Inatel), Brazil. Currently, she is a researcher at the Institute of Communication, Information and Perception Technologies (TeCIP) of Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies, Pisa.
From 2014 her research activities are mainly focused on microwave photonics for communication and remote sensing (Radar, Lidar and beamforming) using interferometric techniques and digital signal processing, with a strong foundation in both Matlab programming and laboratory experience. Recently, she has also started working in photonic integrated circuits in the design, system assembly, characterization, and testing. During her master thesis she also worked with Optical Communications, more specifically Nonlinear Optics, Radio-over-Fiber Systems and Microwave Photonics in the “Research and Development Center in Telecommunications” (CPqD), in Campinas, Brazil and in the Wireless and Optical Convergent Access (WOCA) Lab of Inatel, Brazil. Before engaging in her PhD path she was researcher for the National Interuniversity Consortium for Telecommunications (CNIT), Italy, working with performance analysis of WDM optical interconnect systems. She has authored and co-authored one patent and more than twenty papers in international journals, conferences and seminars. Her research interests are primarily focused on photonic integration, coherent Radar systems, Lidar for mapping and microwave photonics for communication and remote sensing specially for aerospace applications.
